Hello:
Seems like information on tractor prices is hard to get--unlike autos where it's all there for everyone to see. My question is how successful have you been in negotiating down the asking price with Kubota dealers?
Any great strategies?
Thanks,
Ray

Ray, I am a dealer and I would far rather be able to trust someone for the total time of ownership of something, I live that way. I don't want to have to "dicker" everytime to know that I got a fair price. Anytime that someone offers to "dicker" I know that I will have to watch them on everything that I purchase or need repairs on. Time is money to me as well as my customers! You take longer I would like to charge more! Same with the dickering!!! ....

I just bought a JD 4210. I got quotes from 3 dealers, all within $200 of each other, and about $3000 below list. One went the extra mile to call JD and get me a special financing deal that I asked for. He was $200 off the lowest price. I asked him if he would knock off the $200, and he did. I went with him.

Real point is, I think they all tried to give me the best deal they could afford up front. The whole dicker thing is a scam anyway - the car dealers just take advantage of uninformed impulse buyers. Thankfully, it appears the tractor world may not indulge in this.

I just took delivery of a L3130. I decided on what I needed and then got four quotes: one from NY (great price but big delivery charge to VA), one in VA that was way out of line, one in NC (great price and inexpensive delivery) and one in VA (ok price but local and no delivery but state tax). I prefer local so shared the differences with him without identifying the bidders. He met the lowest cost. I may not have gotten the absolute bottom price but I am sure that the relationship over time will be better.

And I agree with Art White. You will live or die with the local dealer - I recommend treating him as a partner. BTW, get to know the owner not the saleman!! ....

I agree, get to know the owner of the dealership, or a salesman that has been there for many years. He would not have lasted this long if he dealt badly with customers.
